Wairarapa
The Wairarapa has been inhabited by the Maori people for at least 800 years, and Europeans since the 1840's. At the base of the Tararua range in the south-east corner of the North Island, this valley of New Zealand has ample amounts of history, and all the charm of seeming off the beaten track.
A quick 1 hour trip from Wellington, the Wairarapa is a great place to enjoy the wineries of Martinborough, the country accommodation and hospitality, and the marvellous mountainous scenery whether just for a weekend away, or en route to experience more of New Zealand. Other activities to include while in the area include tasting delicious fruit grown in the region, and the gourmet food designed to accentuate the quality wine the region produces.
